Meet Terrance

Founder and President


Terrance Lewis is an Exoneree and former juvenile lifer, who served over 21 years on a wrongful murder conviction. Terrance has completed his studies as a Paralegal, and received his Paralegal Certificate from Stratford Career Institute. Since his release in May of 2019, Terrance is the liaison of Pennsylvania’s chapter ITCHTY (It Can Happen to You), an organization which seeks to get a compensation Bill for the wrongfully convicted here in PA. Terrance has also affiliated himself with the Abolitionist Law Center as a Solitary Organizer for the ALC; he also volunteers as a member of the West Philadelphia Defense Hub. Since his release, Terrance has dedicated time & effort to creating the Liberation Foundation, of which he is founder and president.

Brandon Flood currently serves as Secretary of the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons. Prior to his appointment as Secretary of the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons, Brandon J. Flood spent nearly a decade working for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, where he served in a multitude of professional capacities, that of which include the positions of Legislative Assistant, Senior Research Analyst for the House Democratic Caucus' Legislative Policy & Research Office (LPRO) and Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus.  In the aforementioned roles, Brandon's area of expertise included research and analysis, bill drafting, public relations and mass communications, organizational administration and legislative advocacy and stakeholder engagement.  

  In addition, from 2015 through February of 2019, Brandon served as Chairman of the Pennsylvania NAACP's Political Action Committee and in 2016 was appointed by the National NAACP to serve as its Civic Engagement Coordinator for Pennsylvania, where he played a contributory role in registering over 1 million new voters across the commonwealth.

Celeste Trusty is a long-time passionate and outspoken advocate for criminal justice reform.  Ms. Trusty currently serves as Pennsylvania State Policy Director for FAMM, working closely with lawmakers, advocates, and directly impacted people to advance sentencing reform in Pennsylvania.  Prior to joining FAMM, Celeste worked to help to organize support networks and resources for incarcerated people and their loved ones, and was a volunteer for the Pennsylvania Innocence Project.  

Celeste holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminology & Criminal Justice from Arizona State University, a graduate certificate in Forensic Criminology from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, and a Master of Liberal Arts from the University of Pennsylvania.  In her free time, she enjoys being a mom to her two incredible daughters Michaela and Santana, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family..

Lauren Barrow is currently Chair of the Center for Education, Advocacy & Social Justice, and an Associate Professor of criminal justice at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She has been teaching for over 15 years and has taught undergraduate, graduate, and online students.  As a generalist, Dr. Barrow teaches a wide range of criminal justice courses.  She completed her graduate studies in criminal justice at CUNY Graduate Center, John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.  Her research interests lie in exploring the question of equal justice for vulnerable persons. She is published and has contributed to several justice related works.  In 2013, she began teaching Inside Out classes in the Philadelphia region, and has been regionally recognized for her innovative course designs.

Jude Dartey is a senior at the University of Pennsylvania studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. He originally hails from Ghana, West Africa. At the age of 11, Jude moved to the United States with his mother and two sisters and he currently resides in Philadelphia. He is specifically interested in the political and economic development of the African continent and in the long-term Jude wants to start an organization of his own that addresses some of the economic disparities that exist among the Ghanaian people. He has a passion for figuring out ways to that help the marginalized gain more access to capital. Jude is excited to work for the Liberation Foundation so he can help in fundraising efforts and figure out ways in which the organization can create more economic opportunities for Philadelphians who have been/ were wrongfully incarcerated.

Estella Pinto is a sophomore studying Economics and Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. Her coursework includes classes on African American History, as well as mass incarceration and criminal justice reform. She is enthusiastic to work with the Terrance Lewis Liberation Foundation and is excited to advocate for social justice.

Sarah Simon is a senior at the University of Pennsylvania double majoring in Criminology and Political Science. She is from Dallas, Texas and has previously interned for the Mental Health Division of the Dallas County Public Defender's Office, the Violent Crimes Division of the United State's Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas, and the Major Crimes Division of the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office. 

Sarah plans to dedicate the rest of her life to resisting the unjust institutions that continue to mar the U.S. criminal justice system and the world. She firmly believes that fighting against wrongful convictions and incarcerations are key components of this mission, and is deeply grateful for the opportunity to actualize this mission through the Terrance Lewis Liberation Foundation.
